Introductory information about FluffMUCK

Welcome to the Land of Fluff, founded July 24, 1995!

We are a small furry muck running on a privately owned machine. There is no rigidly defined theme; the overall motif contains furry, high-tech, and 'toon aspects, as well as general Fluff-ness, which can loosely be defined as a cuddly friendliness. (Your character does not have to conform to any of these characteristics to be welcome here.)

Fluff currently features a downtown area (dining, lodging, nightclubs), oceanside, wilderness, and rapidly growing Outer Space. Residence areas include numerous caverns, dens, trees, apartment buildings, and small housing developments. Particularly popular on Fluff at this time are Tinyplots and specialized roleplay.

Please read our Acceptable Use Policy. If you get a permanent character here, you will be required to acknowledge your acceptance of this policy.

Permanent characters are created promptly through a character request form and email.

The Techie Stuff: ;)

FluffMUCK runs on a Linux based Pentium III 550 machine with 384MB of RAM. We run a recent version of TinyMUCK Fuzzball.

How to visit FluffMUCK as a guest

Telnet to fluffmuck.org 8888. (If your browser supports telnet, you can simply click here.) When the "Welcome to... Fluff" screen appears, type connect guest guest and hit return. You will be connected to a guest character, which you can use to explore the muck and interact with others there.

Though you can access FluffMUCK with any general-purpose telnet application, a client especially designed for MUDs is strongly recommended. Some popular choices are listed below (On the click to download links, Netscape users should hold down the shift key while clicking to save the file to disk):

If you've NEVER been on a muck before, read these introductory tips to learn how to talk and move around on a muck. :)

Tips:

MUCK is a term used for multi-user environments running a server called TinyMUCK. It is not really an acronym of anything, although some refer to it as standing for "Multi User C Kernel," which is as good an explanation as any. (The server software is written in C.)

If you have played MUDs or MOOs before, you will find many of the concepts similar. However, the syntax for some of the commands may be different.

Here are the basic commands to talk with others and move around the muck.

Say: To speak, type say or " followed by what you want to say. Do not put a closing quote at the end of the speech.

Example: say hello
You will see, You say, "hello"
Others will see, YourName says, "hello"

Pose: To perform actions that others will see, type a : followed by the text of the action.

Example: :waves
You and others will see: YourName waves

Look: The first time you step into a new area you will be shown its description. To see this again, type look or l. To see what other people or objects in the room look like, look at them by typing look Name. To see what you look like, type look me.

Moving around:

Move your character from place to place by typing the direction in which you want him to go. Most areas will list the available exits in their descriptions.

Examples of exits: north, sw, enter, out, down, doorway

To see information about others in the room:

A useful command to use when you walk into a room full of other people is the ws command. Just type ws to see a list of all the players in the room, their gender, their species, and whether they are asleep or awake. ("Asleep" next to a player's name indicates that they are disconnected. Sleeping players will not talk back to you! :))

How to get a permanent character

To get a FluffMUCK character, use the Character Request Form. This is the most reliable way to request a character. Please note that there is a maximum of four characters per email address. Characters requested through the web are created anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours after they are requested. If your character is delayed, nag Zorin on the MUCK and he will look into it.

The first time you connect with your permanent character, you will be shown the FluffMUCK Acceptable Use Policy, and you will be required to enter your e-mail address as an indication of your acceptance of this policy. This information is kept confidential by the administrators.
